I love this app, it’s literally the only thing I have found that helps me get out of bed but it keeps going off after I’ve solved the puzzle.

Latest version of this app per App Store was born 4 years ago. Since roughly iOS version 17 (read: Oct 2024) the alarms won’t stop and adhere to their schedules once you resolve the puzzle but will go off again within minutes if not seconds. The only ‘workaround’ is to go into the app menu and reset all alarms. Dev needs to address this ‘bug’ which seems to be some incompatibility with newer iOSes. I was a bit disappointed that after months of this occurring and many complaints and lowered ratings the dev hasn’t corrected the issue. It is a nice app in every regard but doesn’t seem to be kept current.

This is a good alarm for me because it’s persistent and annoying, which is necessary for me to get up. However it has started going off repeatedly even when I have resolved it. So I go through all the steps to turn it off and then it immediately goes off again. This continues on and on and on! I contacted support and the only help that they gave me was to hit reset, reschedule and then reschedule alarms. If I am even a little sleepy I can’t do this fast enough because it resumes going off only ten seconds after I have resolved it. I was hoping that was a temporary fix while they solved something on their end but it has been months and I still have to do this. Even if I sleep through it because I accidentally left it on silent and it tells me I missed the alarm it will still go off again if I don’t do this. I am tried of racing to reschedule every single time!! This needs to be fixed.

Even though I didn’t like some of the sounds, it was an effective alarm, however, since I updated my phone to iOS 11, it doesn’t always go off and then it keeps going off, even if I have done all the things to turn it off. After going through it 6 times this morning, and even turning my phone off and on, I deleted it.

Everything was great until this morning. Alarm will not stop repeatedly going off.

I am a long time user who bought this app. I had always been able to rely on it to get me up even when it was more resurrection than waking up. However iOS 18 has caused the app to never shut off. I have tried the developers options of resetting etc but it simply doesn’t work. Very sad, I wish the dev would correct whatever is causing the malfunction, but for now, stay away.

Newest iOS, no matter how many times you solve it resets and goes off again. Only fix I found is uninstalling the app. Essentially it’s broken in its current form.

Used this for years and loved it, but with iOS 18 alarms just go off over and over.

After solving and closing, the alarm will continue. Only way seems to be to delete the app.

Great concept but I didn’t realize until after I purchased that you have to leave your phone open or the app open which is terrible for so many reasons. I reallllllllly wanted to write a happy review! Ugh!

I was so excited for this app and it even worked initially. But i have to keep my phone password locked for work and privacy regulations, and i quickly became clear i could not be trusted to remember to change my settings every-night and every morning. So i had to stop using. Please find a way around this.

The alarm is great when it wants to work, I have to uninstall the app every so many weeks when it stops working to get it to work again

This never fails to wake me ip however you can easily delete the app or cheat the volume down

What kind of alarm clock doesn’t start to sound until it’s been going off for 20 minutes? If it’s set for 6:45, sound won’t start til after 7. It shouldn’t matter what the priority score it, the sound should go off when it’s supposed to.

I don’t even know how the freakywrite works. There’s no explanation for the games. Had to delete it. Can someone explain to me how each game is played?

I downloaded this app to help me wake up in the morning without being able to snooze or reset my alarm 7 times. It’s a good idea for an alarm app but the alarm sounds provided are NOT what I want to start my day with. I don’t want to be woken up by a shrill panic alarm then have to solve math problems while the sounds of machine guns and screaming people go off! You can disable the ones you don’t want but you are required to have at least ten and there are not ten calm enough to have as a morning alarm. I would love this app if it were a little more anxiety friendly.

I set alarms for many different tasks in my life and I was excited to try an app with alarms I could NOT ignore. The concept here is absolutely excellent but one thing makes this app unusable for me. I struggle with numbers and have never been able to solve any of the math problems with a loud alarm blaring in my face. Developers: please make it possible to choose which games to include in the alarm! I would love to use this app if, this were possible I would certainly rate it much higher. Regardless, I thank the developers and appreciate their hard work in creating this.

I have a horrible habit of use my snooze too many times, and I also learn to turn off my alarms both in my phone and standard alarm clocks, while sleeping and with no memory of having done it. I’ve tried moving my alarms and trying different times and sounds every day but nothing FORCED me awake enough to not sleepwalk my way to snoozing 10 time. It won’t let you just close the app to shut it up, you really have to solve the puzzles to make it stop. It’s great! This app is great, you can choose the level of difficulty and I printed a QR code that I must scan across my house after solving a couple puzzles. The highest difficulty can be kinda tough wide awake, and while half asleep and confused in the morning these things are the right kind of frustrating, enough to get me truly awake. Anyone needing a better alarm clock that forces you awake by forcing you to use your brain and possibly physically move somewhere to scan a bar/qr code you printed and put up somewhere away from your bed... get this app!! GET THIS APP!!!

Deleted it immediately after realizing there is virtually no customization for what the alarm does. The games are a nightmare if you have dyslexia or any vision problems, having to pick out moving upside down numbers or repeat random number/letter combos with the right case. At least it was only two bucks.

For anyone that sleeps past alarms, I feel more confident that I can see the alarm and expect to be awake. To turn the alarm off, you need to think quite a bit. The exercises are tricky, at least when you are waking up from a deep sleep.

This was my go to alarm for nearly 3 years but the recent iOS 13 update completely broke it. My first alarm kept repeating even after I solved the puzzle and when I turned off that alarm too. Rebooting and even reinstalling the app doesn’t help at all as the first alarm will just keep repeating. Please update this app

Love this app. It has helped me get up for work so many times. However, updated to iOS 13 last night. This morning, FreakyAlarm went a little crazy. Alarm went off every 5 seconds or so. Second alarm started alerting while resolving first alarm. Turned all alarms off, no change (badges still showed with prior active alarm numbers). Killed the app, no change. Rebooted phone, no change. After 20 minutes of this, I finally disabled notifications, sounds, and alerts. This has at least stopped the persistent announcements. Not sure if an iOS update would resolve this, or if an app update is needed. Please get this resolved, I need this app. Updated to 13.1 still have the same issues.

I emailed the customer support over a week ago. I got no response whatsoever. I emailed today again. Before I purchased the app it wasn’t clear to me that I won’t have a choice to choose from the selection of freakygames. I’ll be honest that I find it ineffective to always be forced to do a math problem. This is boring and not awakening to me. I was hoping I’d be challenged by the many other games and I seem to always get stuck on math problem and I get so turned off that even though I paid for the app I resent using it. How do I omit the math problems and use other challenges to get myself awake and out of bed?

I have been a loyal user for many years, and thanks to this app, I am a reformed snoozer. I’d love to give a five star review, HOWEVER, I absolutely hate the “trace this shape” puzzle. A couple of the shapes (namely the brackets and the star) are nearly impossible to get correct, and if you miss it, you have to start all over. If there were a way to select which puzzles you like or if there were more room for error while drawing the puzzles, I would change my review to five stars.

I use this alarm to make me get up and take my vitamins and it’s very effective for that! My only complaint is that, since I don’t need to “wake up my brain” it would be great to be able to turn off the math problems. However, having to take a picture of my vitamin bottle to turn off the alarm is so effective, I’ll grudgingly put up with the games.

You can’t make it snooze and you can’t turn it off without solving problems. I always use it if I need to be up early bc I will sleep through a normal alarm. Only reason I rated three stars is bc the new drawing shapes problem is incredibly annoying and unreliable. Please get rid of it and will rate 5 stars.

You have to leave the app open, with do not disturb turned off and sound turned on for this alarm to work. I’m not trusting an alarm I have to remember to set everything just right for. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and found I had been transported to the Black Lodge. Why would you use such a creepy voice??

Simply the best alarm out there. Very well thought to be the most effective alarm for people with morning issues.

I have used Freaky Alarm since college. Got me through my Bachelor’s, Master’s and now that I am in my career. Please keep the app available and working through new versions of IOS. I’ll be using it the rest of my life!

Music doesn’t work when you add it from Apple Music even if it is not drm protected.

This is the only app that can wake me up. Yes it’s annoying but it works!

You won't wake up as a Disney princess, but you'll wake up and your butt will be out of bed. This is the ONLY alarm that actually effectively gets me out of bed in the morning (even if I'm cranky from being jolted awake by the call of dinosaurs.) (Fyi, if you're like me and crawl back to bed, set it to scan a barcode on another floor.)

This app is significantly better than any of its competitors. I took a break from using it for a while to test out some alternatives, and I’ve come crawling back. It could use a visual touch-up, but besides that this thing is unstoppable. Rather, this thing makes me unstoppable.

Since iOS 11 update this alarm has been unreliable. I have not changed any of my phone or app settings yet sometimes the alarm decides to not sound at all or just vibrate until I unlock my phone. I am wondering if the developers have just given up on the app since it has been 7 months since the last update? Really loved this app and would give it 5 stars hands down, but this new unreliability is making me start to search for a new similar app. Hate to do that, but I am afraid to trust this app anymore. With me working in the education system I kinda have to be there on time no matter what unless I call off in advance.

Only goes off sometimes.... other times I'll notice it in my notification screen, though I went to bed with alarm set, app open, as instructed. I like the idea and the games do wake me up when the alarm goes off correctly.

I have been late to work too many times to consider using this anymore. Even though I set it up exactly the same way for every night of the week and most of the time the alarm goes off at the right time, sometimes it goes off a few minutes late or not at all. This is not acceptable in an alarm and I recommend staying away from this one. It's too bad because the features it has are nice and when it works the quiz part of it gets me out of bed but if I can't rely on it then it's time to move on.

I have used this alarm for years and it just gets better. You can now add a photo to the alarm so you have to actually get out of bed to take a photo of something - I have a pic of my toilet- don't judge. You can choose text so the voice says whatever you like such as "omg you're the best!" Or whatever silly/motivating thing you want. The games really do wake up your brain. Highly recommended.

Okay app. Doesn't work unless it's on the app, so an additional step. Sounds could be more "brain awakening"

I can see this being a huge problem with people with anxiety, etc.

The alarm doesn't work properly with earphones in, please fix the app to ignore headphones. Otherwise great app!

Makes me wake up to anxiety and sets my whole day off

I love this app except for one thing. I don't think the gun fire sound effect is appropriate. One, I think it is a reminder of the violence happening in the world. Two, I think it would alarm someone in a different way leading them to believe they are in danger. The app does its job for me otherwise.

This app used to be great, now it doesn't actually play any sounds with the alarm. Return my money to me or fix this issue.

It seems like a decent alarm app if it would actually work, I've been trying to use this app for days and it simply keeps having issues. Even when the app is left on and open it seems the alarm just won't go off, it seems to work only randomly, I mean it has gone off times I haven't set it to much of my own embarrassment. People say it used to be great however this app is currently hot trash.

The app won't stay open overnight, which means now it's just kind of vibrates quietly until I wake up enough to open the app. I've also noticed that some of the problems don't work – they'll ask me to cook the numbers in ascending order two of the numbers will be the same.

This alarm really works, especially the barcode scan part where I have to actually get up to complete a task. I would suggest, though, to have more puzzles than math problems. I'm terrible at math even when I'm awake. The thing that would be a dealbreaker for some might be that one of the possible sounds is the sound of people screaming while a machine gun is going off. That's terrifying for me, and I would think that it would be a trigger for some people, especially those who have PTSD. Take that out or at least have the option to select the types of preloaded sounds you want.

Ive been having trouble waking up to my alarms so i went online looking for something like this. Freaky Alarm was raved about, so I tried it out for 2 bucks. However, they neglect to inform you that you need to keep your phone unlocked the entire night for it to work - you can't lock it. That broke the deal for me personally so I thought I'd share. Be wary with those 2 dollars.

So. This sounds like a great idea if you (like me) have trouble waking up in the morning. But unless you make a special point of activating it before you go to bed -- and make sure to keep this app on and open and your phone awake ALL NIGHT LONG -- it does not go off. I thought it was enough to just have it open and on! Nope. When my normal alarm went off, I saw that there was a little banner alert telling me that Freaky Alarm was going off, too. I actually had to go INTO the app to activate it and make the alarms and other gizmos start to work. And then it took about 3 seconds to see that if I just want to blow off the whole math quiz and get back to sleep, all I have to do is quit the app. Problem solved. Couldn't be easier! I can definitely say that after this absurd and frustrating encounter with this lame-duck app, I was wide awake. So in that case, it did its job.
